If it were being attainable to edit my earlier reply I'd alter the introduction from the “Oval P” stamp to browse “not uncovered till 1910 or later on.” As a result the 1913 day is a superb in good shape.

I assumed there was a span of time where Exploring Winchester's iconic firearms it was the barrel instead of the receiver, but probable obtained that combined up With all the 1890 information. Many thanks for clearing that just one up. I am nonetheless curious about the reasoning guiding the WP’s use at that point in the sport. Chris

Depending on what I've observed and read in other resources, the oval (P) evidence mark wasn't released till 1908. Previous to that point, Winchester marked “OF” (outside the house fitted) on The underside of the barrel under the forend inventory with the mail order barrels. I've see several of these on Model 1885 Solitary Shot Rifles that predate 1908.
